Kone kaka

Kone kaka fortress hiding the secret of many years is situated close to modern region center, to the east-north side, on the left side of Ashgabat-Mary highway. The south-east wall is 737, 5 meters, the wall in front of it that is north-west wall is 675 meters, north east wall is 590 meters, the opposite wall, south-west wall of the square shaped fortress is 490 meters. There was the gate of the fortress just in the middle of that opposite wall. The walls of the fortress meet with each other by the side by side protection towers. In each 10 meters one protection tower was built. The remaining of protection walls of the fortress walls built of raw brick and the gate are still clearly seen nowadays. In the middle of the fortress the height of inside fortress-inner fortress, maybe the settlement of the palace can be seen in the circular shape. Around it annual ditch was dug. Of course it is not difficult to consider that in its period water run around it and left the fortress from the passage of northern wall. Thus from the structural, architectural indications of the fortress, the findings found in this place it is possible to realize more earlier period before Islamic religion. Among the people there are lots of different legends, stories about this fortress and old city. At present this ancient fortress like a secret box made from raw brick attracts the attention of archeologists. There are some written retained sources which prove Kone Kaka being the center of vital importance in the very early periods and being left more earlier than middle ages. The book “DrewnostiAbiwerdskogoraýona”  (Dashkent-1931) which was written by scientist whose name mentioned above A. A. Semyonov on the basis of his scientific-research works includes such kind of information. Personal historian-writer of famous commander, invader DemirAgsak (Teumerlang) SherifeddinAlyYezdi mentions about Kone Kaka in his (ZafarNama) book which he wrote about the military campaigns of his king. He finished this book in 1424. The author of the book remembers his king besieging Kelet city with his army in his first campaign to Iran in 1382, but returning back not being able to invade the city which was situated in the very suitable place of Kopetdag’s center. It is said that while returning back DemirAgsak with his troops settled in Giren fortress nearby to Bawerd (Abiwerd). Nowadays the remaining of this fortress restored as UlyGiren hill (Big Giren) and Kiçi Giren (Small Giren) hill. This fortress was not suitable for big army. Because of that according to commander historian “After fourteen days his excellences king with his army entered Kahkah gala between Kelet and Bawerd (Abiwerd) and he ordered to restore this old lament ancient fortress. The army worked on this for two days…” As it is clear Teumarlang  army used this fortress with intact old walls in an emergency and he did not stay there long. After some period of departure of Teumarlang the fortress again dried out. In the later written resources about northern Khorasan history the name of this fortress is not mentioned. The ancient fortress once again sank down to the depth of the history.
