Encouraging children to protect the oceans and seas

Within the framework of the Conference "The Caspian Sea - the Sea of Friendship and Harmony", organized on the occasion of the Caspian Sea Day by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, UNDP and UNEP specialists held a cultural and educational event at the “Dayanch” Children's Health Complex.

In an accessible and playful way, children were told about the international experience on waste management and rational use of oceans’ resources. After the official part, games for children and activities on fine arts and modeling of figures from plaster were organized on the Caspian Sea coast.

The event was aimed at increasing the environmental awareness of children and promoting the development of careful attitude towards nature, as well as changing behavior in relation to rational consumption.

Currently, within the framework of the UNDP/GEF/Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Awaza”, “green” standards are being introduced in the country’s hotel sector. The project is also aimed at introducing the practice of rational use of water resources and waste management, as well as the use of modern energy-saving equipment.
