Turkmenistan delegation takes part in COP29

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change has officially begun in Baku, Azerbaijan, and will occur from November 11 to November 22. The city is expected to welcome around 70,000 international guests, including a delegation from Turkmenistan.

The conference will kick off with an official opening ceremony at the Baku Olympic Stadium on November 11. Following this, the World Leaders Climate Action Summit will occur on November 12 and 13, which will feature speeches from approximately 80 heads of state and government from parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The COP29 program will include numerous events that address various aspects of the climate agenda, such as green finance, adaptation, mitigation, technology, and other relevant topics.

Official negotiations will take place in the Blue Zone of the Conference, where important decisions will be made. Meanwhile, the Green Zone will host various exhibitions, seminars, and cultural events related to climate change. Workshops and sessions in the Green Zone will specifically focus on critical issues like water scarcity in the region and innovations in renewable energy. Key topics to be addressed include nature and biodiversity, ocean ecosystem conservation, resource management, empowering individuals and communities, and promoting a sustainable future with shared responsibility for humanity.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed in June 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. The Conference of the Parties has been held annually since 1995. The primary goal of this global summit is to evaluate progress in combating climate change worldwide. During the sessions held from 2011 to 2015, discussions centered around a key international agreement in the fight against climate change, known as the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in France in 2015. To date, 195 countries, including Turkmenistan, have joined this agreement.
