In a significant move to reinforce its diplomatic stature, the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan has officially declared 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust." The decision was announced during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, December 27.
The resolution, which aligns with the country's commitment to neutrality, aims to strengthen Turkmenistan’s global position and advance its domestic and foreign policy goals. It also marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, a cornerstone of its foreign policy.
The motto "Turkmenistan is the Birthplace of Peace and Trust" was drawn from a poem by National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as proposals from the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council), public organizations, and citizens.
The declaration underscores Turkmenistan's experience in fostering international relations through peaceful means. The country’s neutral status has allowed it to build strong ties with global nations and respected international organizations, contributing to global peace, security, and sustainable development. The resolution states that Turkmenistan’s efforts in maintaining stability and promoting mutual understanding have been instrumental in fostering regional and international cooperation.
Turkmenistan’s diplomatic achievements, including its election as Vice-Chairman of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the successful adoption of resolutions like "2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust" and "Central Asia – Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation," highlight the international community’s confidence in the country’s peaceful and cooperative policies.
