Tajikistan’s Transport Minister, Azim Ibrohim, has instructed relevant agencies to prepare for a trial train for the multimodal corridor linking China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, and Europe, as reported by the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
The minister has emphasized the necessity of updating railway wagons and locomotives, improving digitalization efforts in the sector, establishing logistics centers, including the Iranian port of Chabahar, and enhancing both the volume and quality of freight and passenger transportation. Additionally, he has called for the construction of new transit railway lines.
During discussions between the presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon, held in Dushanbe in May 2023, both leaders identified the transport sector as a priority area for bilateral cooperation. They focused on increasing efficiency and creating new international transport corridors, including the multimodal corridor China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey.
Efficient utilization of transport potential was also a major discussion point at the first Turkmenistan – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan summit held in Ashgabat in August 2023.
