The country commemorates its independence on August 17, marking the date in 1945 when it declared sovereignty from Dutch colonial rule. This historic event followed years of Japanese occupation during World War II.

A significant development in Indonesia is the planned relocation of its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara, a new city being developed on the island of Kalimantan. This move is part of a broader strategy to reduce the burden on Jakarta, which is facing overpopulation and environmental challenges, and to promote more balanced national development. On the 79th anniversary of Indonesia's independence, President Joko Widodo and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto participated in the flag-lowering ceremony at the Garuda Palace in Nusantara, marking a symbolic step toward the capital's future .

Turkmenistan and Indonesia share a history of diplomatic cooperation and mutual respect, with both nations engaging in active dialogue within international platforms such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
