President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Congratulates Indonesia on Independence Day, Emphasizes Strategic Partnership

On the occasion of Indonesia's Independence Day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan extended warm congratulations and best wishes to President Joko Widodo and the Indonesian people, as reported by TDH.

In his message, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his hopes for continued peace, progress, and prosperity in Indonesia, highlighting the strong and friendly relations between the two nations. He also conveyed his wishes for President Widodo’s good health and happiness.

Indonesia, a key player in Southeast Asia and the world's largest archipelago, is home to over 270 million people. The country commemorates its independence on August 17, marking the date in 1945 when it declared sovereignty from Dutch colonial rule. This historic event followed years of Japanese occupation during World War II.

A significant development in Indonesia is the planned relocation of its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara, a new city being developed on the island of Kalimantan. This move is part of a broader strategy to reduce the burden on Jakarta, which is facing overpopulation and environmental challenges, and to promote more balanced national development. On the 79th anniversary of Indonesia's independence, President Joko Widodo and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto participated in the flag-lowering ceremony at the Garuda Palace in Nusantara, marking a symbolic step toward the capital's future .

Turkmenistan and Indonesia share a history of diplomatic cooperation and mutual respect, with both nations engaging in active dialogue within international platforms such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement. The two countries have also explored various avenues for economic cooperation, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and trade. In recent years, there has been growing interest in enhancing educational and cultural exchanges, with several initiatives aimed at strengthening people-to-people connections between the two nations.
