A meeting took place in Aktau between the heads of transport departments from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Afghanistan

During the First "North-South" Trade and Logistics Forum in Aktau, Kazakhstan on July 19, 2024, a trilateral meeting was held among the heads of transport departments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Afghanistan. The meeting, reported by the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, involved discussions on various issues related to furthering cooperation in the transport sector between the three states.

Specifically, the parties discussed the conditions for transporting goods along the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan route with access to Pakistan. Additionally, they considered the possibility of participation in the construction of a railway from the Turkmen-Afghan border to the city of Herat in Afghanistan.

It was emphasized during the negotiations that the transport route "Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan" is a crucial component of the transit corridor "North-South". The effective use of this route is expected to facilitate the transportation of goods, initially amounting to 5 to 8 million tons and potentially increasing to 20 to 30 million tons in the future.
