At the CIS Heads of State Council meeting in Dushanbe, Turkmenistan was chosen to chair the Commonwealth in 2026. This was reported by Turkmenistan Golden Age.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Turkmenistan, calling it a sign of high respect and recognition of the country’s contribution to the development of the CIS.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that Turkmenistan would approach its upcoming chairmanship with great responsibility, and that a Concept for Turkmenistan’s CIS Chairmanship would soon be prepared and shared with member states.
As an associate member of the CIS, neutral Turkmenistan consistently supports open and equal dialogue and actively promotes trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
It was also noted that Turkmenistan successfully held the CIS chairmanship in 2012 and 2019.
