Galkan emerged victorious as the champions of the International Ice Hockey Tournament

The conclusion of the International Ice Hockey Tournament in Turkmenistan's capital marks another milestone in Ashgabat's evolution into a recognized global sports hub. This event underscores the widespread endorsement of Turkmenistan's focused strategy to promote physical culture and sports, a key priority under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the esteemed National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero-Arkadag.

Turkmenistan's concerted efforts have fostered a culture where its citizens enthusiastically participate in both summer and winter sports, including hockey and figure skating, despite the challenging climatic conditions of Central Asia.

The tournament, hosting ten teams from Europe and Asia, showcased the rapid development of hockey within Turkmenistan. Teams from Bahrain, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan competed fiercely over six days at the Winter Sports Complex.

During the preliminary stage, teams were divided into two groups, with the winners advancing to the finals and the runners-up vying for bronze medals.

In the third-place playoff, Uzbekistan's Feniks and Belarus's Volat clashed, with Volat emerging victorious with a commanding 12-4 win. Eduard Grin's remarkable performance, scoring five goals, propelled Volat to victory.

The highly anticipated final between Galkan from Turkmenistan and ADIHIC-Kazan from the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, captivated spectators with its thrilling twists and turns. Despite a neck-and-neck battle, Galkan emerged triumphant with a 4-2 victory, securing the tournament title.

The tournament's success was lauded during the closing ceremony by players, referees, and dignitaries, including First Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Leonid Anfimov, who commended the event's organization and presented awards to the deserving winners.
