The United Nations (UN) remains one of the most influential international organizations promoting peace, security, development, and friendship among nations. Over the past 80 years since its founding, the UN has played a central role in strengthening international law, equality among states, and the protection of humanitarian values.
To mark this significant milestone, a conference devoted to the 80th anniversary of the UN was held on October 23, 2025, at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event brought together UN representatives in Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions, officials from various ministries, professors, and students.
Prior to the conference, an exhibition was organized in the institute’s foyer, featuring the activities, publications, and projects of UN agencies operating in Turkmenistan, including UNDP, WHO, UNICEF, and others.
Speakers highlighted Turkmenistan’s active engagement with the UN, its commitment to international obligations, and its constructive role in promoting sustainable development, energy security, and peace. Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, based on neutrality, trust, and good-neighborly relations, was emphasized as a model of stability and cooperation.
The discussions also underlined the country’s contributions to UN initiatives, such as the establishment of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat and the creation of the “Turkmenistan–UN” Strategic Advisory Council. These initiatives reflect the nation’s consistent efforts to advance dialogue and peace.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants adopted an Address to the President of Turkmenistan, expressing gratitude for his continued support of UN–Turkmenistan cooperation. The event concluded with a signing ceremony of the new UN–Turkmenistan Framework Program for Sustainable Development for 2026–2030, aimed at strengthening partnership for the years ahead.
