Successful Performance of Turkmen Karate Athletes at an International Tournament

The national karate team of Turkmenistan achieved a successful performance at the international Kyokushinkai karate championship “Cup of the Commonwealth,” held from 19 to 21 December 2025 in the city of Navoi, Republic of Uzbekistan.

Following intense bouts, Turkmen athletes won a total of four medals, including three gold medals and one silver medal. The team captain, Meylis Pashagulyev, claimed victory in the weight category over 80 kg, while a representative of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan, Annadurdy Gurbanilychov, won the gold medal in the weight category up to 70 kg.

In the girls’ competition (ages 16–17), Medine Dangatarova, a student of Secondary School No. 88 in Ashgabat, demonstrated high skill and secured the gold medal in the weight category up to 60 kg. Umid Shukurov also earned a silver medal in the weight category up to 55 kg.

The competition brought together nearly 480 karate athletes from 12 countries, including Russia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Algeria, and Congo.

The successful performance of Turkmen athletes on the international stage once again confirmed the high level of Turkmenistan’s martial arts school and the steadily growing sports prestige of the country.
