An international conference entitled “Health and Nutrition in the Context of Climate Change” was held in the capital of Turkmenistan, highlighting the country’s commitment to uniting efforts in addressing climate-related challenges.
The event brought together representatives of relevant Turkmen ministries, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the UN Development Programme, as well as delegates from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, and Russia.
Participants emphasized that ensuring environmental sustainability is a key priority of Turkmenistan’s state policy. Within the framework of the National Climate Change Strategy and the National Forestry Programme, systematic measures are being implemented to rationally manage land and water resources, protect the environment, and introduce green and resource-efficient technologies.
Ensuring food security under changing climatic conditions is closely linked to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Climate change impacts require the modernization of traditional agricultural practices and the adoption of innovative approaches. Turkmenistan actively supports the expansion of international cooperation in this field.
As part of the conference, several project agreements were signed between Turkmenistan’s relevant institutions and FAO, aimed at restoring ecosystems, strengthening integrated water resources management, enhancing climate resilience in agriculture, and fulfilling commitments under the Paris Agreement.
