“Magtymguly Fragi – the common heritage of the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples”

On May 2, 2024, an international conference was held in the Union of Writers of the Republic of Uzbekistan to honor the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, Magtymguly Fragi. The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republican Turkmen Cultural Center in Tashkent, and the Writers' Union of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Before the conference started, participants paid their respects to Magtymguly Fragi and Alisher Navoi by laying flowers at their monuments in Tashkent. They also visited an exhibition located in the building of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan. The Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Ch. Rustemova, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Meredov, the Chairman of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Saidov, the Chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Relations with Foreign Countries under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan R. Kurbanov, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences B. Abdukhalimov, and Chairman of the Republican Turkmen Cultural Center in Tashkent G. Avezdurdyeva were among the attendees.

 

During the conference, speakers highlighted the cultural and humanitarian ties that have strengthened between the two countries in recent years. They also emphasized the results of scientific research conducted by scientists from both countries in studying the creative heritage of Magtymguly Fragi. The role of Magtymguly Fragi's poetry, which has been translated into many foreign languages, in promoting a culture of peace in modern times was also discussed.

 

As part of the conference, concerts featuring Turkmen and Uzbek artists were held in the cities of Urgench and Tashkent.
